‘Gram Sarkar (Village Government) Act, 2003′ Case (2003)

BLAST filed a writ petition challenging Section 4 of the Gram Sarkar Ain, 2003 [Village Government Act, 2003] as being inconsistent with the Constitution. Section 27 of the Act replaced the ‘Gram Parishad’ established under the স্থানীয় সরকার (গ্রাম সরকার) আইন, ১৯৯৭ [Local Government (Village Government), 1997] by the ‘Gram Sarkar’.

‘MP’s Telephone Bills’ Case (2001)

BLAST filed a writ petition challenging the failure of the Bangladesh Telegraph and Telephone Board (BTTB) to take legal action against the Members of the Fifth and Seventh Parliaments respecting non-payment of arrears of telephone bills amounting to crores of takas. The Members of Parliament drew their allowances in accordance with the provisions of the Members of Parliament (Salaries and Allowances) Order, 1973 and received monthly allowances for telephone bills, but had reportedly not repaid their dues.

‘Iodized Salt’ Case (1999)

On undertaking laboratory tests which revealed that salt produced by eight manufacturers of iodized salt did not contain the required level of iodine as stipulated under law, and given that lack of adequate iodine was known to affect the normal physical and mental growth of children by causing Iodine Deficiency Diseases, BLAST filed a writ petition challenging the inaction and failure of the authorities to ensure compliance with the Iodine Deficiency Disease Prevention Act, 1989 and Rules, 1994.
