Piren Snal

On 3 January 2004, Piren Snal, an Adivasi rights activist, was killed in police firing on a demonstration in which he and other Adivasi activists were protesting plans to construct an eco-park in Modhupur, which would have threatened the lands and livelihood of the local community. 30 others were also injured in the firing.

BLAST investigated the incident and supported Piren’s family in initiating a criminal case. BLAST continues to provide legal aid and representation for the family, but the case remains under trial due to prolonged delays in the judicial system and apparent obstruction by certain vested interests.
